PaleoHack

What is PaleoHack?

PaleoHack is a game for the Palm (or other handheld computer that runs the Palm OS). It is a port of Hack 1.0.3. It is freeware, and source code is available under the Hack License.

Current status is alpha: a lot of things work now but many niceties are still missing. Also it is still somewhat prone to crashing. The latest release is 0.03. You can get it from the project page.

Ok, what is Hack?

Hack is a "rogue-like" game. These games are text-based and have a familiar premise: wander around in a dungeon, collect treasure, deal with bad-tempered monsters, try to finish a quest.

Hack is the ancestor of NetHack. Hack 1.0.3 was written by Andries Brouwer as a major revision of the first Hack, which was written by Jay Fenlason with help from Kenny Woodland, Mike Thome, and Jon Payne. You can read more information about Hack elsewhere.
